Rain Blossoms 2. Opening Ritual “The Gentle and Strong Rain Blossoms Tribe of the Simi Federation meets tonight. Let us offer a prayer to the Great Spirit.” 3. Pledge of Allegiance Host Child leads the Pledge 4. Captain: Program Purpose, Slogan, Aims, and Pledge a. Captain: What is the purpose of the program? Tribe: To foster companionship of parent and child b. Captain: What is the slogan of the program? Tribe: Friends Forever! c. Captain: What are the AIMS of the program? Tribe: (Recites AIMS together) d. The Pledge of Allegiance 5. Navigator: Roll Call 6. Treasurer: as dues are collected, each tribe members tells how their dues were earned. An alternate question could relate to a current fundraising goal (i.e. “I’m looking forward to shopping for gifts for our Gift of Giving Family in December”) or a special event (“I’m looking forward to seeing the elephants the zoo with my tribe next week”.) 7. Captain thanks hosts 8. Scouting Reports. Each member has two minutes to share something positive about themselves for their week. Use of the Talking Stick and a Timer is recommended. • Child learns to express him or herself • Importance is given to sharing with a parent • Tribe actively participates in AIMS 4 and 6 as a group 9. Leader Lines: The Navigator introduces the meeting topic or theme (Any of the AIMS or “Learning about Myself” are examples of potential themes) and at this time may tell a story or lead a song. 12. Craft or Activity. This should be completed before the end of the meeting. Parent and child should work together. Have a sample made prior the meeting. Discuss the theme of topic. 13. Refreshments 14. Closing Ritual: Captain asks the host child to beat the tribal drum to bring all members to the circle. All talking should stop. Tribe stands in a circle, parent behind each child, all facing the center. The Captain announces when the next meeting will be held. Closing prayer, closing ritual. Members quietly go home. Tribal Prayer Ideas “May the Great Spirit make the sun rise in your heart” “Help me to win, if win I may, but it is not for me to win, let me have joy for he who does” “Remember our ancestors, remember our friends, take care of our beginnings, take care of our ends” “Go forth and prosper” “May the road rise to meet you May the wind be always at your back The sun shine warm upon your face The rains fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand” Traditional Irish Blessing Depending on the age of the children, the children could lead most of the activities. The Fire Vipers had their sons lead the Pledge of Allegiance, collect dues, take attendance and pass out special beads of recognition, and remind the tribe of upcoming events. Beads are an inexpensive item to award child members for their participation and support of the tribe. Children and parents can make items such as necklaces or key rings, or add the beads to their vests. Here are some ideas for the awards. Princess Moonbeams Pink – no interrupting – especially when on the phone Orange – listening – doing what was asked after being told only once Red – was helpful – did something nice for a family member this month Blue – dressing – got dressed by herself and without complaining (including her hair) Green – talking respectively – was polite to her family and friends Purple - attended the Princess Moonbeams’ monthly meeting Blazing Blackfoot White: To be clean in body and pure in heart “Make healthy choices” Pink: To be friends forever with my mom “Keeping Family as my True North” Yellow: To love the sacred circle of my family “Being Helpful and Responsible” Black: To listen while others speak “Being Respectful” Red: To love my neighbor as myself “Being Kind” Blue: To respect the traditions and beliefs of all people “Having an Open Mind” Green: To seek and preserve the beauty of Our Creator’s work in forest, field, and stream “Protecting our Environment” ** Sometimes there are special beads for special occasions ** |
